The SOS Lang Tre Em Da Lat is a Children's Orphanage that opened 40 years ago. It has been in continuous operation for the past 23 years. During those years, The SOS at Da Lat has taken in more than 300 children from the surrounding provinces of Vietnam. The Village contains 14 homes each with 6-8 children, with a maternal caregiver who has dedicated her life to the upbringing of orphaned children. The families in the village live simple, with only the basics. They live as a family unit with as much love and happiness one could pray for.
It is estimated that the cost for each child per month to live is less than $20 US dollars. The village operates on donations from charitable organizations.
As part of our Medical Mission, Temple University School of Pharmacy donated cases of noodles and packaged milk that will be distributed evenly throughout each household.
First we would like to thank all of you who donated of your generosity. You can see that much of your donated money have already begun to make a difference in the lives of these children's!! (Just look at the adorable faces)
Secondly, on a more personal note, the moment the administrator began to describe the lives of these children to us, emotions started to swell. Eventually, when we were introduced to one of the families, the children were of course shy, however such happy glows shined from their eyes and smiles!! As I tried to communicate in Vietnamese to the children, (with little success) it was clear that they wanted to practice their English lessons with me, and I was happy to do so!!
As we strolled through the village, I partook in a friendly game of soccer, which the boys love to play!!
Finally, as we departed, I could no longer hold back the emotions!!
Even though our donation was modest, seeing the immediate effect we had on such innocent, happy, grateful children and the people who care for them with love and dedication, was one of the GREATEST GIFTS I EVER RECEIVED!!!!
