We're not in KANSAS anymore!!!
When your days start at 6:30 AM for a 50 minute bus ride to a clinic, the day is anything but expected!! As you can see, a Medical Mission brings new and interesting challenges not frequently encountered home in the States!! The dispensing area has none of the regulations required in the US, not even working lights! This particular day in Can Tho, an overwhelming number of patients arrived to be seen by our medical staff. As the evening grew late, moonlight, candlelight, and flashlight was all that illuminated our Pharmacy area! Of course during a medical mission such as this, you roll with all the punches, duck when needed, and find a way to fight to the finish!! We rolled with the punches (accepting each and every poor and under privelidged patient that arrived at the clinic), we ducked when needed (setting up stations by natural and artificial light), and fought to the finish (As the final patient got the same care, compassion, and meticulous attention to detail as the first patient)!!! I realize that the work hours are arbitrary, the amenities are lacking and the resources are scarce, but the REWARD is PRICELESS!!!! Just wondering how the State Board statute dictates Pharmacy Practice by Candlelight!!!!!!!!
