Unique Delicacies in Old Town Saigon

After arriving safely in Saigon, Chi's nephew Hung (pictured top photo) was gracious enough to take us to a very local eatery in Old Town Saigon. What a unique experience! Low-key, outdoors, folding tables, and a variety of delicacies. Once your order is placed, a small, personal size grill is set up in the center of the table, upon which a member of your party (mostly Hung) does the cooking. Delicacy items on the table today: (Warning: Those with weak stomaches may want to skip this section): Goat breast and Chim Se (pictured above). Chim Se (or Bird Sparrow) is grilled to perfection, lightly dipped in a tangy pepper sauce, and then, YEP, eaten whole. Thats right, Head, Body, Bones and all! Needless to say I had initial reservations after seeing it arrive at the table, but as I always proclaim, Ill eat anything once. I must say, it was delicious. And so far, easy on the tummy!! It will not be the last time I savor Chim Se!
I know this will be the first of many unique delicacies offered to us during this journey, and as with the Country, the People and the Mission, There is Much to be learned!!!
